You paid for this: Britney Spears's The Woman in Me
I've already read this twice
I both listened to and read this memoir within the same week. Audiobooks are my preferred way of consuming a celebrity memoir, and I was even more intrigued once I read that Michelle Williams was reading it. It makes sense that it’s not Britney Spears herself for myriad reasons, but I really appreciated learning that Spears chose Williams out of a lineup of interested A-list actors, as she thought she’d do her story justice. I like Williams as an actress, but I don’t know anything about her backstory. and got to know her through Brokeback Mountain and her love story with Heath Ledger rather than most people my age who know her through Dawson’s Creek, a cultural touchpoint I missed entirely.
Spears, however, is not a cultural touchpoint I or many others have missed. I am not here to wax poetic about her experiences because, honestly, I am not even a super, super fan. I’ve never seen her perform; I don’t know all of her albums; I flip-flop on following her on instagram because her posts stress me out.
But I love her. I feel like I know her.
